Barack Obama on The View
The president of the United States was a guest on another episode of ABC’s “The View,” on Tuesday, May 15. While there, the commander in chief spoke with Sherri Shepherd, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselbeck on a number of issues including his view on gay marriage. Looking comfortable in a black suit and lavender tie, Obama discussed his historic decision that’s landed him both praise and criticism. While noting that Mitt Romney, his likely contender in the presidential election, does not support the idea, Obama said the Justice Department has made moves to have the “Defense of Marriage Act” declared unconstitutional. “My Justice Department has said to the courts, ‘We don’t think the Defense of Marriage Act is constitutional. This is something that historically had been determined at the state level,” said Barack Obama on “The View.”
Additionally, the ladies of “The View” gave the president a pop culture quiz on “pressing” issues like the Kardashians and a sex book, 50 Shades of Grey, which is on the bookshelves of women nationwide. “I’ll have to ask Michelle about it,” admitted Barack Obama on The View.
Today’s ‘Barack Obama on The View’ appearance should have gone drastically different. He was originally expected to announce his support for gay marriage on the ABC program, but had to make a rush announcement on “Good Morning America” after Vice President Joe Biden made remarks on the subject.
The last time viewers saw Barack Obama on The View was in 2010 when he subjected himself to another pop culture quiz this time on Snooki and Linsday Lohan. His latest appearance while garnering laughs is also drawing criticism. Ken Tucker of Entertainment Weekly described Barack Obama on The View this morning as “pointless.”
