Dwight Howard will not get his wish of being traded to the Brooklyn Nets. The NBA All-Star center, who has one year remaining on his contract with the Orlando Magic, told reporters that he only wanted to play for the Brooklyn Nets.
But after several maneuvers and proposed trades that would have sent Howard to Brooklyn, the Nets decided to pass on Howard and will likely re-sign center Brook Lopez to a $78 million deal.
If Brooklyn could’ve pulled off the trade, the Nets would have a “super team” that was on par with the Miami Heat. The Brooklyn Nets traded for the Atlanta Hawks All-Star guard Joe Johnson and re-signed point guard Deron Williams.
The Nets will still be a competitive team and should make the playoffs, but they can no longer be considered championship contenders without Howard.
