2012 Emmy Award Nominations Announced
The 2012 Emmy Awards will take over television screens and no doubt social networks when they air this fall on ABC. Before that, however, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced this year’s nominees for the coveted gold trophies. Included in the list of nominees are a few black celebs; Idris Elba is up for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his role in the British television show Luther while Don Cheadle picked up a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in “House of Lies.” Maya Rudolph is up for an award as well as Loretta Devine for her recurring role on “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Despite the lack of black stars up for nods, a number of popular shows are vying for trophies; “Boardwalk Empire,” “Breaking Bad,” “Mad Men” and “Game of Throne”s will battle it out for Best Drama series while the highest paid woman in television, Sofia Vergara, and her “Modern Family” co-stars garnered several nominations. The 2012 Emmy Awards will air Sept. 23 and Jimmy Kimmel will host.
