Penn State's Punishment Sets Social Media Ablaze

Cyberspace felt the aftershocks from the quake that shook beneath Pennsylavania State University after the NCAA lowered the thunder on a school and program for its complicity in one of the worst scandals in college football history.

The legacy of the late legendary coach Joe Paterno is officially in tatters after the NCAA president hit the sprawling campus in central Pennsylvania with a $60 million fine, a four-year bowl ban (which will cost the school tens of millions more in potential revenues earned in playing in postseason games) and will take away dozens of scholarships. Penn State must also reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period, the release said.

But most of all is the fact that the school — most of all, the football program — will have to vacate all of its wins that date back to 1998, the year that Penn State’s leadership first became aware that child-preying monster Jerry Sandusky was sexually abusing little poor boys with impunity. That means that Grambling’s iconic coach Eddie Robinson will become again the winningest coach in college football history. Social media sites surged as football fans and others registered shock and dismay while others believe the punishment was just, if not strong enough.
