A new Washington Post poll discovered that former mayor and current Councilman Marion Barry is the most popular politician in the District of Columbia.
Barry is rated higher than any elected City Hall official in D.C. No other politician even came in a close second.
A full 52 percent of District residents have a favorable opinion of him.
Barry rates 17 points higher than Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans who, at 35 percent, is second in popularity to the Mayor-for-Life.
This doesn’t speak very highly of DC residents, the same city that has the same rate of HIV/AIDS rates as some sub-Saharan African nation.
Interestingly enough, 81 percent of blacks view him favorably. Meanwhile, a scant 7 percent of whites have a favorable opinion of him.
