10. The Victory Tour: It was a disaster before it could even begin. Michael wasn’t feeling this tour in the first place but was out-voted by the family. The ideal first came up during the legendary “Motown 25” television special and it spoiled the euphoric feeling Michael must have had after doing the Moonwalk during “Billie Jean.”
There was in-fighting on top of in-fighting before the Victory Tour. Jackie broke his leg and couldn’t even tour with his brothers. Michael and Jermaine did not appear in the two videos the brothers did for the album, “Torture” and “Body,” because they were entangled in lawsuits and other drama. Michael got his scalp burned to the white meat doing that infamous Pepsi commercial. The brothers hired Don King to promote the tour. The ticket prices were outrageous. The production for the concert was rushed and haphazard, which pained Michael deeply. The album was panned by critics and produced only one Top Ten hit, “State of Shock,” a duet with Mick Jagger. Though it was a record-breaking tour in terms of the number of people who attended, it was a total public relations disaster. No wonder they never toured together again.
