University of Texas in Austin Evacuates Buildings Amid Bomb Threats

University of Texas Students Ordered to Evacuate

A man claiming to be with al- Qaida has caused a mass evacuation today on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. School officials report that they received a threat this morning from an unknown caller claiming to be with the terrorist group. The man told officials he had bombs in several campus buildings that would go off at 10 a.m. CT. A mass evacuation was soon  underway and a tweet from the University’s official Twitter account read, “Immediately evacuate ALL buildings and get as far away as possible. More information to come.” University police later told news organizations that it was a “general bomb threat.”

Update: The University has reopened. Classes have resumed as usual. –danielle canada
