The smartphone’s owner realized his phone was missing and told the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent who called the Port Authority police.
Smith, dressed in uniform, went into the bathroom and hid the contraband in a toilet-seat-covers dispenser. When confronted by a police officer, Smith admitted that she “left the phone in the bathroom stall.”
Authorities saw McCaulay swipe the iPhone on taped security footage. McCauley confessed and told police that Smith was blameless. He said he panicked when police officers were approaching and slipped the phone into Smith’s pocket.
Smith was arrested, released and given a court date while McCaulay was charged with petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property and is awaiting arraignment in a Queens’ criminal court. –yvette caslin
