Dexter Avenue Baptist Church – The church in Birmingham, Ala., where Dr. Martin Luther King became pastor for the first time. It was in the basement of Dexter, just steps away from the state capital, where black activists formed and strategized for the Montgomery Bus Boycott that signaled the dawn of the Civil Rights Movement.
