And fans are still buzzing about Avant’s reunion with “R&B Divas” star Keke Wyatt. The two famously did a duet on his breakthrough hit “My First Love,” and are together again on “You and I.” “That woman is such a professional when it comes to the studio,” he shares. “We just joke and have a good time, but we love music in such a way that when we get behind that mic, it’s totally business. We’ve been blessed to be compared to Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, and we really appreciate those comparisons. But we understand what Marvin and Tammi were doing. They were serious about what they were doing.”
“We’re planning to do a duet album, as well,” he adds. “Six original songs and six covers.”
Now, with so much experience and on his seventh album, Avant can look back with the wisdom of a man that’s seen the industry’s highs and lows. “We all take things for granted,” he says. “I probably took my fan base for granted and the music industry, period. You first get in it and you get a hit record and think that’s all you need. But to continue to make a mark you have to continue to write records on top of records on top of records.”
“I see people at [my] shows crying and I see ‘em happy and I see ‘em sweating. The whole energy is a beautiful thing,” Avant says. “And I wouldn’t take anything back.”
