M.I.A. claims her ex-fiancé wants to take their son from her

M.I.A. and her former fiancé, wealthy entrepreneur Benjamin Bronfman, seemed to part on good terms when the Sri Lankan rapper announced their split last year. But, apparently, things have gone sour between the former pair, as M.I.A. recently claimed that Bronfman and his family want to take their son, Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman, away from her.

According to SPIN, M.I.A. posted a series of tweets earlier this week (which have since been deleted), revealing her custody battle with the Bronfmans.

“Ben, you cant take my son away from me, the mother,” she wrote. “Just because you have the money doesn’t mean you have the right.”

“Wow, the Bronfmans want to take my child away from me,” she continued. “What kind of s–t is that? They never see him.”

“Every child needs the mother,” she concluded. “I grew up without a dad. If [I] grew up without a mother I wouldn’t be here.”

And according to the New York Post, things are heating up in court between M.I.A. and Bronfman, who was granted a temporary restraining order in a King’s County (Brooklyn) court after M.I.A. allegedly threatened to take Ikhyd back to her native London.

“M.I.A has been texting and calling Ben, saying she will take their son to London, even though they both live in Brooklyn and the child goes to school there,” said a source. “Ben filed a motion for a temporary restraining order preventing her from taking their son to the UK against his wishes.”

Ironically, last year, Bronfman denied reports that M.I.A. was a negligent parent and publicly tweeted that she was a good mother to their son. Clearly though, his opinion has changed.

Sadly, M.I.A.’s not the only star to be caught in this kind of predicament. Check out some other celebrity custody battles below. – nicholas robinson
