As a person who has had more than a few different contract cell phones, I think I might by uniquely qualified for this subject. I couldn’t begin to tell how many times my cell phone carrier has stuck it to me – just because they had this professionally drafted (fine print laden) contract that basically allowed them to do a ton of crap that I never realized I had agreed to – primarily because I never went and got that law degree that I used to think about.
There were all kinds of fees, and taxes that weren’t part of that neat little advertised package that I had originally signed on for, but because I had signed on the dotted line there wasn’t a thing I could do other than pay them whatever they said.
So, one day I wised up and started to take a hard look at pre-paid and pay-as-you-go no-contract cellular services. I’d never really given these types of services a second thought before, because in my arrogance, I looked at any cell phone service without a contract as being something that was beneath a person of my standing. These types of services were for people who had bad credit! Folks like me were supposed to be part of a more elite class – having contracts and formal agreements that validated us.
How dumb was I? When I really looked into Boost Mobile, I discovered that I had been a big sucker for years. Not only do I get the exact same service that I was getting with the so-called civilized services, but I get a much better deal. I don’t have a boatload of hidden fees and if I decide that I don’t want or need their services anymore, I’m not penalized for canceling my service. I could just pay my current bill and we’ll go our separate ways. And, in case you think like I did and believe the phones are crap, think again. They have lots of sweet phones that take advantage of all of the latest technology. –mark anderson
