For decades the black community has been seen as extremely homophobic – and that idea hasn’t exactly been without just cause. But Johnson’s support of his gay son and gay athletes is proof that the homophobia that has historically permeated the black community is slowly losing its grip with each new generation. Johnson’s words can inspire others to confront homophobia and work to eradicate it.
