Lil Wayne could be the next rapper to lose a major endorsement deal over improper lyrics. The family and estate of Emmett Till are planning to pressure Mountain Dew into dropping their endorsement deal with the rapper.
Till’s family is upset by Lil Wayne’s disparaging lyrics on Future’s song “Karate Chop.” “Beat the p—y up like it’s Emmett Till,” Lil Wayne raps. Till was murdered and brutally beaten by savage white men in Mississippi after they accused him of whistling at a white woman. He eventually became a martyr and symbol of the racist attitudes that plagues the South.
L.A. Reid of Epic Records issued an apology and pulled the song from airwaves. However, Lil Wayne never apologized for the lyric and Till’s family is highly upset. Fueled by Reebok’s decision to drop Rick Ross over his “rape lyrics” on the song “U.O.E.N.O.,” Till’s family will go after PepsiCo (the home of Mountain Dew) with the hopes of a similar outcome.
Share your thoughts. Should Emmett Till’s family force Mountain Dew to drop Lil Wayne’s endorsement deal, or has the entire issue been blown out of proportion?
