Atlanta’s leading dermatologist, Dr. Wesley Wilborn, passes away

A pioneer, Dr. Wilborn launched the first mainstream skin and hair care product line formulated by a dermatologist’s to people of African descent. He developed a special interest in diseases of the hair and scalp, and in 1981 became President and Co-Founder of W & W Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. He was the formulator of the entire line of X-Ception and X-Ceptional Curl Products. In 1989 Dr. Wilborn founded Dermatologist Products Ltd. (DPL). The creation of DPL was inspired by Dr. Wilborn’s experiences as a Dermatologist as he found that there were no products effective enough to heal the skin and scalp problems of many of his patients.

Author of the chapter on “Disorders of Hair Growth In African Americans” in book titled Disorders of Hair Growth:Diagnosis and Treatment by Elise A. Olsen, book published by Olsen and McGraw Hill in 1993. One of Dr. Wilborn’s most outstanding accomplishments has been 28 years of service as a member of the Health First Foundation Board. He has served as Secretary of the Board and as Treasurer. The Health First Foundation has given millions of dollars to enhance the health care of the citizens of Georgia.


Dr. Wilborn met the love of his life, Marrilue R. Wilborn, at South Carolina State College. After graduation they were united in Holy Matrimony on June 5, 1959. From this union they are the proud parents of one Son, William Wesley Wilborn; Daughter in law, Kirsten Erin Wilborn; one Grandchild, Bailey Reed Wilborn.

Dr. Wesley Wilborn was born on July 26, 1937 and he departed this life on April 26, 2013. His homegoing service will be held at Hoosier United Methodist Church, 2545 Benjamin E. Mays Drive, SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30311 on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11 a.m.
