Nia Moore dishes on her housemates and upcoming new book
Reality TV junkies rejoiced when they saw that a saucy Atlantan would be joining “The Real World Portland” cast. Nia Moore, 23, replaced Joi Niemeyer on the 28th season of the program and instantly spun the house on its head; so much so that her “Hurricane Nia” nickname was well earned. Below, this boisterous beauty dishes on her upcoming tome about dating professional athletes and her MTV housemates.
What was your background before “The Real World?”
I’m originally from Los Angeles but I’ve lived in Powder Springs, Ga., for 17 years. I got a volleyball scholarship to Howard [University], I graduated in 2011. I decided that I was going to take a hiatus from the “real world” and not take a job. I had an opportunity to work at NBC and a PR firm but I felt like that it wasn’t necessarily the type of journalism that I wanted to do. I had the privilege to go to school on a free ride, so I wanted to enjoy my early 20s. I [was a] cocktail waitress for about a year but I wasn’t only wait[ing tables], I was writing a book.
Tell us more about the book.
The name of the book is How to Play the Game and it’s what I consider the ultimate playbook to how to find, date and keep professional athletes; basically being successful in a relationship with one. … It’s an insightful read.
Which one of your housemates surprised you the most?
Jordan. He’s a very smart, attractive, witty guy. He’s an athlete and he’s so much like me but he’s also so much not like me. He’s not self aware, he is an a–hole. He picks on people who aren’t his size, he believes that he is the king and everyone else is a peasant. I can already tell [you] what it is, he hasn’t had a good, healthy a– kicking in his life. When he moved into this house, he was misogynistic. I was surprised. I understand that the kid is fighting demons but I’m very self-aware and I hold myself accountable. That is the complete opposite of what Jordan does. He’s conniving, he’s a liar, and he’s a little kid.
Which one of your housemates did you bond with?
Marlon. [In an] instant [we knew] that we’d be friends forever. I’m cool with everyone except for Jordan.
