Shonda Rhimes and Kerry Washington have captured the nation with the hit TV show “Scandal.” The show gets 8.3 million viewers per episode and is the top rated show in its time slot. “Scandal” also gets more viewers than hit shows such as, “Mad Men” (3.4 million) and “Game of Thrones” (4.4 million).
But social media has allowed the show to reach new heights and get a step up on the competition. According to a recent report by The New York Times, “Scandal” attracts nearly 200,000 tweets per episode (190,000 to be exact). Unlike most prime time dramas, “Scandal” inspires viewers to engage in discussions as it’s being televised.
Entertainers have also engaged on Twitter. Celebrities such as Holly Robinson Pete; Gabrielle Union, Roland Martin and others tweet about the show faithfully.
ABC recently renewed the show for a third season. The season’s finale airs on May 16.
