CCA and “New Slavery”
The CCA owns 60 prisons nationwide and is the largest private prison company in America. They are contracted by the government and states to manage and operate prisons. Currently, the CCA holds 75,000 prisoners. Black men currently make up 40 percent of the prison population. The CCA pays inmate workers as little as 25 cents per hour. Prisoners who refuse to work are regularly held in isolation. Companies that use prison labor include IBM, Dell, AT&T, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Revlon, Nortel, Victoria Secret and Boeing.
