In an interview with Charlie Sloth on BBC 1Xtra, Roc Nation rapper J. Cole shared that he included little-to-no collaborations with fellow rappers on his upcoming, Born Sinner album. According to Cole, the two biggest guest stars on the project will be R&B acts. He’s already released Power Trip with Miguel. As one of the hottest artists in R&B right now, he also has a track with one of the most beloved acts in R&B history.
“I got Miguel, but I also got – this is big – I got TLC on the album,” he said. “Yes, T-Boz and Chili. It’s crazy.”
“No [one else] is rapping on the album,” he confirmed.
In another interesting twist regarding Cole’s Born Sinner album, Hot 97 personality Peter Rosenberg claims that there is a song on the LP that references a rift that occurred between the young star and one of his hip-hop idols, legendary rhymer Nas.
“J. Cole’s album is supposed to be dope. His production has supposedly improved quite a bit,” Rosenberg said during his morning show this week. “And here’s a tidbit I heard a while ago that’s pretty exciting. Supposedly, there’s a song on the J. Cole called something along the lines of, ‘I Disappointed Nas.’ It’s about how Nas supposedly reached out to J. Cole after he heard ‘Workout,’ and was like, ‘Nah fam, I expected more from you from this.'”
“Supposedly J. Cole gets really personal and has a whole song about how it felt to have disappointed one of his heroes in music, Nas,” Rosenberg explains. “The second I heard this, it got me incredibly antsy to hear. I think that’s one of the things I’ve been wanting to really hear from J. Cole. It’s more of him and his story. So I needed to hear that. His album comes out June 18th, I’ve heard nothing but good things. So let’s see if this song actually ends up being on the album. That’s what I heard, you can expect from J. Cole. Just a little gem.”
