Michael Douglas says HPV gave him cancer
Actor Michael Douglas recently gave a revealing interview on what he believes gave him throat cancer. While speaking with Xan Brooks of The Guardian, Douglas dished on his previous bout with the disease. While the writer assumes that the actor may have gotten it from his history of smoking, Douglas instead pins it on oral sex.
“No,”says Douglas. “No. Because, without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus. From cunnilingus. I mean, I did worry if the stress caused by my son’s incarceration didn’t help trigger it. But yeah, it’s a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer.”
He shrugs. “And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it.”
It definitely seems as though Douglas was pointing to human papillomavirus for his disease, his rep has since clarified and denies that the sex act caused the cancer.
“Michael Douglas did not say cunnilingus was the cause of his cancer,” said Douglas’ rep Allen Burry in a statement. “It was discussed that oral sex is a suspected cause of certain oral cancers as doctor’s in the article point out but he did not say it was the specific cause of his personal cancer.”
Sure.
Despite the clarification of Douglas’ oral sex talk, Twitter has been in a tizzy over the news. Unsurprisingly ,a number of people are cracking jokes while others are applauding the actor for his honesty.
