Rap-A-Lot and Swisha House have been the go to record labels for any artist trying to break out of the local Houston market and take their career national. In 1998, the now legendary female girl group, Destiny’s Child, put Houston on the map. In 2002, Destiny’s Child creator, Mathew Knowles, founded Music World record label. Since its inception, Music World has become a gospel label for local and national artists and is ranked the No. 2 gospel label in the country. With so many artists clamoring for a spot with major labels like Rap-A-Lot, Swisha House and Music World, it’s no wonder that so many independent labels are becoming a new source for artists who are seeking record deals.
