Jay-Z says he 'can only have love' for Dame Dash (audio)

Jay-Z visited New York City’s Hot 97 July 9 for the first time in more than two years. With most of the interview dealing with his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, fatherhood, his superstar wife Beyonce, and his touring plans; host Angie Martinez eventually asked the hip-hop superstar about his former Roc-A-Fella Records partner, Dame Dash. Dame posted a message on Vine last week praising Jay’s new album, and Jay said that he’d gotten wind of his old friend’s comments.

He shared that while they have gone their separate ways, there is no lingering bad blood.

“What we built, you can’t take that away,” Jay-Z says during the interview. “No matter what, no time or space. No matter how many years I ain’t seen him, the love is still there because what we’ve done will forever be stamped in history. We created something that’s going to go down forever. I can only have love for Damon.”

“I just don’t know where we are in our life,” Jigga says. “Are we the same two young men at that time? Will we gel in that way? We were two different people. I haven’t seen him in a while. I can’t remember when was the last time.”

Dash’s career has seemingly taken the opposite trajectory of Jay-Z’s; with his latest bit of bad news involving a $2.8 million tax lien. While Jay made it clear that the two aren’t close any longer, when asked how he felt about Dame’s hardships, he stated that he believes that his former partner has the savvy to rise out of any situation he may be in.

“In life, I can’t control everything, all the things in life,” Jay-Z said. “I have ultimate confidence in him that he’ll find his way ’cause he’s an amazing and really smart guy.”

“He’s a hustler and he’s highly intelligent, so I always root for him and always believe that he’ll find his way out of it.”
