The models are in full effect at the bi-annual Bronner Bros. Hair Show held in Atlanta, GA. While many spectators love to admire the over-the-top hair pieces styled by gurus from all corners of the US, the majority of us have to be mindful of convenience, and of course, our work dress code when picking out or next new style. Hair model, Letorsha Hom, who has been modeling for over eight years, shares her background, her insight on hair maintenance, and tips to finding a great weave.

How did you get into hair modeling?

I was doing fashion modeling first. Then I met Gail Coote, Owner of Weaves by Gail, who now does my hair, and she got me into the hair shows. I’ve been a hair model ever since. This is my sixth show.

Are there certain restrictions you face styling your hair and being a hair model?

There are no restrictions because the people that we model for create styles that are more conservative. We wear styles that we can actually go to work in.

How do you maintain your hair?

Gail makes her own products, which I use, but she recommends that you use a lot of castor oil. Daily washing helps the hair grow. Many women don’t believe in washing their hair that often, but you want to keep your scalp clean, especially when you’re wearing a weave.

What are some of the things you are looking for in the perfect weave?

The perfect weave is all about texture. You want your hair to be soft, and to be able to comb your hair through it as if it’s your real hair.
