Nathania Terry is devastated. The 32-year-old mother witnessed the horrifying death of her 5-month-old while traveling through Spain’s Alicante Airpot to start her vacation at a resort town in Dénia. According to MailOnline, an accountant who lives in Maryland, Terry leaned – some reports say climbed – onto the luggage carousel in an attempt to grab her baby’s stroller, which caused the belt to move. She then dropped the infant onto the moving belt and he was crushed and later died from catastrophic head injuries.
“The mother left the baby on the conveyor belt, which can be activated by detecting weight or by an airport employee,” a spokesman for the Spanish Guardia Civil said. “It seems that the baby carrier’s weight activated the belt and the child was trapped in the rollers in the drop zone.”
Workers ran to try and provide assistance but really had no time to react because everything happened so fast.
An airport worker tells media, ‘The youngster ended up trapped in a 10cm hole where two belts converge. The boy appeared to have suffered from a fractured skull.”
