For several years, 50 Cent has been striving to be taken seriously as an actor.
The hip-hop star famously shed 50 lbs to portray a cancer-stricken football star in the straight-to-DVD film All Things Fall Apart, and now footage has surfaced that features Fiddy putting his all into an audition for the 2007 crime drama American Gangster.
The film starred Denzel Washington as drug kingpin Frank Lucas, and 50 Cent was apparently hoping to land the role of one of Lucas’ brothers in the film. Despite the fact that hip-hop stars T.I. and Common both had roles in American Gangster, the part that 50 was auditioning for would eventually go to British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor.
At the time, the only acting experience 50 Cent had was appearing in the widely-panned pseudo-biopic Get Rich Or Die Tryin.’
