Georgia Deputy Chad Palmer wears blackface
A Camden County, Ga., officer made an idiotic choice this year when he decided to wear blackface for his Halloween costume. Weeks after the holiday a photo has surfaced of Deputy Chad Palmer dressed as an inmate.
Palmer covered himself in black pigment and donned a striped jumpsuit. Witnesses have since told WSAV that the official said he was a Camden County inmate and he was “picking cotton.”
WSAV reports that Palmer has been suspended without pay and has been placed on probation for one year. Camden County Sheriff Jim Proctor said in a press conference to reps from local churches and the NAACP that Palmer and his fellow deputies will be required to go through sensitivity training. Chief Proctor also stated that Palmer’s suspension will remain until Proctor feels certain that Palmer has learned his lesson.
Proctor stopped short, however, of firing the halfwit police officer.
Palmer’s blackface costume was one of several racist gibes made during Halloween 2013. A white woman was fired from her job after posting a photo of her friend dressed as Trayvon Martin complete with blackface and a bloody hoodie on Instagram. Italian designers found it “chic” to don blackface and shackles to look like African slaves for a “Disco Africa” party.
