Barneys and Macy’s blow off NY City Council meeting on discrimination

Seems Barneys and Macy’s couldn’t care less about their perception when it comes to the black community.

Both retail giants recently chose to skip a New York City Council meeting to discuss recent racial-profiling allegations. Among 17 retailers, including Target, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Ave, Barneys and Macy’s were the only two to not have a representative present or request documents from the hearing for their review.

“I’m offended that Barneys New York and Macy’s are not here. I think it’s insulting, not just to the City Council but to the City of New York and the people who shop there,” said city council member Jumaane Williams

It should be noted that while reps from Barneys and Macy’s failed to show at the hearing, they did provide written statements essentially denying the allegations of racial-profiling.

One has to wonder how this bad PR will affect the holiday shopping season for both giants, if at all.
