2nd Annual Power: Opening Doors for Women conference

Fifth Third Bank presented the  2nd Annual Power Atlanta conference recently. Deirdre Joy Smith is the founder and president of Power: Opening Doors for Women. She started this event nine years ago in Chicago and Detroit, and in 2014 it will be in Beijing and Shanghai.


The conference included workshops with Constance R. Dierickx, founder and president of CD Consulting Group. She spoke on Power Your Career and Your Life. The next workshop was with Gail Evans, former executive VP, CNN, with the Lessons in Leadership discussion and the final workshop was with Cheryl Walker-Robertson, president of Protocol International.


The keynote speaker for the evening was Carla A. Harris, vice chairman of Global Wealth Management and managing director and senior client adviser, Morgan Stanley. She received her MBA from Harvard Business School and in August 2013 Harris was appointed by President Barack Obama to chair the National Women’s Business Council. Harris is loaded with many accomplishments and awards. She brought an outstanding speech, teaching skills to further your dreams, goals and expectations. Harris has written a book, Expect to Win, where she shares “Carla’s Pearls,” ten valuable lessons.

Everyone at the conference held at the Georgian Terrace left with lots of information to use in your daily workplace and life. Southwest Airlines, the official airline for the event, had a raffle and gave away an airline ticket presented to winner by Quinnie Jenkins-Rice, regional leader, Community Affairs & Grassroots.
