Many ’90s TV fans across the nation felt a weighty sadness yesterday when news hit that James Avery, the actor who played Uncle Phil on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” passed away at 68 from complications during open heart surgery. For many fans, Avery had become everyone’s beloved TV uncle, but for some of the stars around him he really was a well-loved friend and father figure. And stars like Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and many more all vented their grief over Avery’s death yesterday.
