Turntable Tuesdays: DJ World

world

Representing the south side of Chicago (Hyde Park), DJ World literally and figuratively does it all. With extensive experience in a variety of areas (mobile, touring, nightclubs, etc.), World is the go to man in Chicago. Recently he has been most commonly associated with the Soul Selector DJs organization, in which he serves as CEO. He is also noted as a prominent nightclub DJ as well as feature DJ for high profile corporate events.

DJ World has become a recognizable brand name on the national landscape with a stronghold in his native market the Midwest. He has been a long standing resident for Phil & Nate Productions, BMW, MazeJac Universal, Burger King, K-Mart, Killerspin, Bombay Sapphire, and numerous others. Currently, DJ World balances two residences at venues in Chicago in addition to maintaining a health weekly performance schedule.

Here are DJ World’s five picks:

talib

1. Talib Kweli Feat. Miguel “Come Here” – This joint is just good hip hop. They put it together right and Miguel on the hook is a good compliment. I play this a lot.

chrisitian

2. Christian Prommer’s Drum Lesson I “Can You Feel It” – This eclectic remake of Larry Heard’s (aka Mr. Fingers) 1988 release is brilliantly executed. I really appreciate that Christian Prommer did it his way and also paid homage to the genre with a quality remake of one of it’s earliest hits.

Q

3. Schoolboy Q Feat. Kendrick Lamar “Collard Greens” – This record is good for listening or partying. It reminds me of a few of those classic Dungeon Family joints with a current twist big uos to THC and Gwen Bunn on the production. It’s a heater.

jcole

4. J. Cole Feat. Amber Coffman & The Cults “She Knows” – This 4th single from the Born Sinner LP is a fun loving and uptempo joint. It’s refreshing and a little more carefree than most of the records you might find on my turntable on a Saturday night at primetime.

kingoftomorrow

5. Kings of Tomorrow Feat. April “I Need To Love Me” – I’m digging on this song because it’s timesless music and it has a good uplifting vibe. Also, I like the message; I believe we could all love ourselves a little more.
