An escaped prisoner decided that jail was a better option than being free and cold. According to reports by AP, Robert Vick escaped from prison in Lexington, Ky., on Jan. 5.
However, he escaped during a time when Lexington and much of the United States was hit by an arctic blast. On the day of Vick’s escape, the high in Lexington had dipped into single digits. By Jan. 6, the temperature was 20 below zero.
Vick couldn’t brave the frigid temperatures and decided to return to jail. He walked to a motel and asked an employee to call the police. Once police arrived, Vick turned himself in and they took him back to jail.
Vick is currently serving a six-year sentence for burglary.
