We’ve all been enraged at the loud moviegoer who rudely talks on his or her cellphone or talks at the screen. But is it worth taking someone’s life?!?
A moviegoer in Florida shot two people—one of them fatally— after one of them refused to stop texting and talking on his cellphone during the previews.
According to Fox 13 in Tampa, Fla., a man and his wife were watching a matinee showing of Lone Survivor when they asked the couple in front of them to stop texting. When the couple refused to abide by proper cellphone etiquette in theaters, a verbal “altercation” ensued, followed by the man man reportedly pulling out a handgun and shooting the two people in front him.
“The victim was on his cell phone. He was texting. We believe he was making some kind of noise. This noise led to an altercation between the suspect and the victim,” Sheriff Chris Nocco told FOX 13.
The couple were at the Chapel’s Cobb Grove 16 Theatre in Tampa when Curtis Reeves Jr., 71, asked 43-year-old Chad Oulson to stop texting, according to Pasco County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Melanie Snow.
Reeves asked Oulson to stop using his cellphone several times. Reeves, at one point, got up and left the theater, before returning to his seat behijd Oulson, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the report, Oulson asked Reeves if he went to tell on him to theater managers. Authorities said Reeves took out a handgun, and Oulson’s wife Nichole put her hand over her husband. Then Reeves fired his weapon, striking Nichole Oulson in the hand and hitting her husband in the chest.
“Their voices start going up, there seemed to be almost a confrontation, somebody throws popcorn — I’m not sure who threw the popcorn — and then bang, he was shot,” witness Charles Cummings said.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where the man later died. Another moviegoer reportedly detained the suspect until police arrived.
