An Ohio father has requested to be escorted to the funeral of his daughter, whom he’s accused of shooting to death on Sunday.
Deandre Kelley, 34, was reportedly arguing with the girl’s mother at her Cincinnati home at around 2 a.m. when he pulled out a gun and fired four shots into the air, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
It just so happened that the daughter had run upstairs and into the bedroom to escape the turbulent arguing and yelling going on downstairs. One of the bullets pierced a second story bedroom and struck his daughter, Shanti Lanza, in the chest, killing her.
Shanti Lanza, 11, was pronounced dead later at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Kelley was reportedly inebriated at the time of the tragic, albeit accidental, killing and was arrested and charged with reckless homicide.
He pleaded not guilty, and was being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on $500,000 bond.
On Wednesday, his lawyer, Hugh McCloskey, Jr., filed a motion asking for a prison pass for Kelley so he can attend the girl’s funeral on Saturday morning, the Enquirer reported.
A hearing on the matter was scheduled for Thursday.
