Delusional South Carolina mother drives minivan into ocean with children inside

Notoriously known as minivan mom, pregnant mother Ebony Wilkerson, 32, of Cross, S.C., who drove her Honda Odyssey into the ocean in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Thursday, March 6, 2014, has been charged with three counts of child abuse and attempted 1st degree murder. She almost successfully drowned herself, her unborn child and her three children ages 3, 9 and 10 in the Atlantic Ocean off Daytona Beach.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office officials tells media that’s she’s been evaluated under Florida’s Baker Act, a law that allows authorities to involuntarily take people into custody if they seem to be a threat to themselves and others. She was released on the Tuesday prior to the incident because she showed no signs of mental instability or displayed that she was a danger to herself or others.

Her sister, Jessica Harrell of Daytona Beach, says her sister recently got out of a “domestic violence situation” that involved authorities in both Myrtle Beach and North Charleston, S.C. and moved to Florida. Harrell is the one who alerted authorities that she was concerned for her sister. Wilkerson recently separated from her husband.

Wilkerson’s bond has been set at $1.2 million and she faces 30 years in prison.
