A Washington State woman is facing murder charges for allegedly starving her 96-year-old father and leaving him to rot in his own feces and a garbage- and filth-strewn home until he died.
Renee Nash, of Port Orchard, Wash., a city west of Seattle, was paid $1,200 a month to care for her own dad, Harlan Haynes, but barely fed or bathed him in the last several months of his life, authorities said.
It was believed he died in early March, but Nash lived with his corpse for at least two days before reporting the death, KOMO-TV reports.
Authorities who responded to the home could only spend a few minutes inside before being forced outside again, due to the stench, the station reported.
After donning protective gear, they found the home to be a hellish den of garbage and piles of human and animal feces.
Haynes lay dead in his room wearing only a shirt and a soiled adult diaper. There were also several cats and a dog inside.
Scott Wilson of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said it was “quite frankly a really gross situation with more than two feet worth of human feces, animal feces, disposable diapers that had been soiled.”
Wilson said the office’s most “seasoned homicide investigators” called the scene “one of the grossest scenes they’d ever seen.”
Nash is being held in jail on $500,000 bail.
