Lupita Nyong’o is the new face of Lancôme
After stunning the world with her beauty and Oscar-worthy performance in 12 Years A Slave, Lupita Nyong’o has been named the new face of Lancôme. The Kenyan stunner was announced as the face of the brand Friday and will be its first black spokeswoman.
“I am truly honored to join the Maison Lancôme, a brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved,” said Nyong’o in a statement.
“I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.”
Nyong’o also made sure to mention Sudanese model, Alek Wek, as her inspiration. The actress previously said seeing Wek be idolized helped her deal with internal issues with her skin color.
“When she came on the scene, I felt more seen. Having me on a huge campaign like this will hopefully do that for other girls or people who feel unseen or under seen.”
Nyong’o’s Lancôme campaigns will run this summer.
