Kevin Liles, whose iconic rise from intern to company president of Def Jam in just eight years, imparted that his formula included having a “No one’s going to do it better than me” attitude. “I never wanted to be just an intern; I wanted to be the president of the interns. You weren’t going to outwork me. If I wasn’t the best that day, I failed,” he said.
Liles described how he also went above and beyond by, providing stats, slides, data and more to back up what he discussed in meetings; and at events, he created remarkable and memorable experiences. Liles encouraged the audience by saying that everyone should “be so dedicated to the mission that nothing will stop you.”
Liles profoundly stated that more people should strive to “become a product of your experiences as opposed to being a product of your environment.”
