Lupita Nyong’o meets Alek Wek

People magazine recently made Lupita Nyong’o’s dream come true after they set up a meeting between the Kenyan beauty and her idol, supermodel Alek Wek.

Nyong’o, who’s been dubbed the mag’s most beautiful person for 2014, previously said at Essence’s annual Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon that Wek, who is “dark as night” helped her see her own beauty. Obviously touched by the notion, Wek thanked the Oscar winner for the recognition.

“Much congratulations and all the beautiful words you said at Essence … you didn’t have to but it was really, really beautiful,” said Wek. “It meant a lot because starting modeling in the ’90s it was quite so surreal. They were like, ‘Oh you’re so different, so weird, so bizarre!’ I’m like, ‘I’m so normal, what are you talking about?’ I just love the genuineness that you bring toward to your craft and just you as a young lady. That totally shows through,” she added.

Nyong’o then reminisced about seeing the Sudanese beauty on the cover of publications.

“I just remember seeing you on the cover of a magazine, and I don’t even know what magazine it was, but there was no apology in you,” said Nyong’o. “You were just who you were and I had never seen that before. How is this working? … I’ve never seen anyone like me on the cover.”

The African beauties held hands during the sit down and ended their exchange with a hug.
