Antoine Dodson shocked the world last year when he claimed that he’d renounced his homosexuality and was planning to live heterosexual life and have a family. Now, the former YouTube celebrity has heads turning, once again, now that he welcomed his first son this past weekend. But it wasn’t just the birth that had people talking, it was also what Dodson had to say about what his son’s sexual orientation may be.
According to Wetpaint, Dodson and his girlfriend welcomed a son, JaCobie, 6 pounds, 7 ounces and is 19 inches long, earlier this month, announcing the news on Twitter on May 20.
Dodson’s agent, Beth Holdt, spoke to AL.com about the birth, saying that Dodson is elated to be a father.
“He’s ecstatic.” Holdt said. “I had lunch with him yesterday and he was already missing his son.”
Boldt explained that Dodson plans to eventually release more information and photos of JaCobie to the public. “He’s a beautiful baby boy. He’s looks just like Antoine and is tall like him,” she said.
However, controversy is already surrounding the birth of Dodson’s son after an intervie with TMZ in which he claimed that if his son turns out gay he’ll do whatever he can to “fix” him.
“I wouldn’t be shocked, because I lived that life before,” adding, “I would try and get him help.”
Dodson continued, “Even if he couldn’t be fixed it doesn’t matter because I still support him no matter what.”
It’s not surprising that Dodson feels that way about his son’s sexuality, considering how he vilified and renounced his own homosexuality. It’s unfortunate that someone who’s had an attraction to the same sex and had their existence questioned and attacked throughout their lives would submit his own son to the same kind of treatment if he were gay. People who live authentically don’t need to be “fixed” and love without condition is the best gift any parent can give to their child. – nicholas robinson
