WWE wrestler Darren Young rose to superstardom last year after he came out to the world and became the WWE’s first openly gay wrestler. Now, Young has become a gay sports icon and he recently spoke to NewNowNext about his life changing decision to come out.

“I turned 30 November 2, and it came to a point where I couldn’t live another 30 years just suppressing these feelings and living a lie, but now at this point I’m able to live my life truthfully and honestly,” Young shared.

Young also discussed his upcoming appearance at GaymerX on July 11, the leading video-game expo for LGBT players and their allies, where he’ll be talking with fans and promoting his appearance in WWE 2K14.

“It’s just something new and innovative. This is the second GaymerX 2 and I’m very happy to be a part of it,” Young said.

We’re excited that Young is reaching out to other LGBT gamers and sports fans, and we hope that his life continues to inspire other LGBT youth to live honestly and proudly. – nicholas robinson
