Chris Brown and the Bloods gang: A positive relationship?

R&B singer Chris Brown raised eyebrows this week after posting on Instagram and indicating that he is possibly affiliated with the notorious Bloods gang in L.A. The star posted a fairly normal photo of his shoes with slang that is commonly used by Bloods.

“It’s bool! I stand on my own two feet when life gets brazy.” he wrote.

It’s common for Bloods to replace certain words that start with “C” with a “B,” so the post got a lot of attention. Brown was alleged to have been throwing up gang signs and shouting out the Bloods at a party after the BET Awards. He was just released from jail in early June after serving 108 days for violating his probation.

Despite the questionable judgment in his seeming to connect himself with the infamous gang, it is being reported that there is a mutual respect between the singer and the bangers.

TMZ claims that the Bloods don’t mind if Breezy is claiming affiliation because he’s helped their neighborhood tremendously. Brown has reportedly hired several Bloods to work for him and he regular visits their community. He spends time with young kids and donated a thousand pairs of shoes to neighborhood children. Plus he shot a video in a Blood neighborhood.

So the respect that he’s given has been well-earned. But it may not be wise for a high-profile celebrity to tout gang associations on social media, especially if that celebrity has already been arrested numerous times in the past and has been out of jail just over a month. Here’s hoping Brown can maintain the positive influence on the community but keep himself from becoming linked to criminals and criminal activity.
