Jennifer Hudson and her family are no strangers to unspeakable tragedies,especially in the wake of the murder of Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew years ago. Thankfully, the family has been living in relative peace ever since. But it appears that tragedy has struck again as reports reveal that Hudson’s half-brother has been arrested for stabbing a man in the face.
According to WWMT.com, the incident happened Monday night in the South Haven Charter Township of Michigan when Hudson’s half-brother, Stephen Angelo Simpson, got into an altercation with his estranged wife’s current boyfriend.
The report claims that Simpson was at his estranged wife’s apartment when the fight happened and that he stabbed the man, identified as Charlie, several times, including in his face, before he ran off.
“He said someone knocked on the door, he thought he was knocking on the door for somebody, and he started getting stabbed up,” said Torrey Hunt, a neighbor who helped the victim.
Hunt opened his door around 3 a.m. to a man bleeding and begging for help.
“I open the door and see blood everywhere,” he said. “He was stabbed in his chin and his chest, he had puncture wounds in his chest and his arms and stuff.”
Charlie was treated at a local hospital, where he received more than 20 stitches. He is, however, expected to make a full recovery.
Simpson reportedly has a history of violence. Simpson is currently on probation, after he was arrested several times in the past, most recently for assaulting his wife on Super Bowl Sunday.
Neighbors claim that he’s show up at his estranged wife’s residence multiple times in the past, shouting and pounding on her door.
“I hope she’s alright too, obviously this guy is looking for her too,” she said.
“She locked herself in the bathroom until he left,” said Detective Adam DeBoer. “It appears to be an ongoing feud over a woman.”
Simpson reportedly turned himself in for questioning the next day.
“He was cooperative in the sense that he showed up for questioning, but not very cooperative overall,” Detective DeBoer said.
Simpson was arrested on probable cause Tuesday afternoon, and is expected to be charged Wednesday with first degree home invasion and attempted murder.
It’s unfortunate that Simpson resorted to such violence in this feud and now there’s a strong chance that Hudson and her family will lose yet another family member, this time to the prison system. – nicholas robinson
