Since her recent ascension on the scene, Australian-born rapper Iggy Azalea has been a hot-button topic in the world of Hip Hop. Is she authentic? Is she a culture vulture reciting pre-written lyrics in a “rap” accent?
During a recent interview with BET about his Time Is Illmatic documentary, legendary Queens, New York, emcee Nas weighed in on the issue while talking other hip-hop related topics. He says of the “Black Widow” rapper he was once rumored to be dating, that if she maintains a “tough skin,” then she should be fine.
“Hip-hop is a rough place, and you’re gonna get punched around no matter who you are. I think Iggy Azalea knows that. She’s a really intelligent woman. She loves hip-hop,” Nas says. “[In] hip-hop, you need tough skin no matter what color your skin is. The most important thing is having tough skin. I think she’ll be all right.”
