WWE wrestler Darren Young rose to fame last year after he came out as gay, making him the first openly gay wrestler in WWE’s history. Now, after more than a year as an out sports icon, Young is reflecting on life post-closet and explaining what he’s learning since coming out.
Young opened up about his life as an openly gay man in an open letter with the Huffington Post, explaining how much his life has changed in just a year.
“Looking back on my life since coming out a year ago only makes me wish I’d had the strength to come out sooner. It was the final step on the journey to self-acceptance, and I’m glad I can say now that I truly love myself,” Young said.
“I’ve grown so much as a person over the past year, and I hope that sharing my experience will encourage others to follow their own path. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, and life has been good to me,” he added.
Well, we’re glad that Young has found peace and happiness in his life now that he’s out of the closet, and we hope other LGBT people follow suit and feel compelled to live life freely, in the open.
