Earlier this month, reports began swirling that openly gay NFL hopeful Michael Sam had proposed to his longtime boyfriend, Vito Cammisano. And now, after more than a week of rumors, Sam has finally confirmed the big news with fans.
As previously reported, Sam and Cammisano began a European vacation on New Year’s Eve and Sam reportedly proposed to his boyfriend while they were oversees.
Last week, Sam finally revealed on Instagram that he did propose to Cammisano, posting a picture of himself on bended knee in front of his boyfriend atop St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, which ironically, is opposed to same-sex marriage.
“@vitcamm thank you for making my 25th birthday a very special one,” read the caption.
Sam also tweeted the photo with the caption “Thank you for saying yes.”
Cammisano also shared the good news on social media with a photo of himself showing off his new engagement ring.
Well, we’re definitely excited to give a big congratulations to the couple and we hope their marriage is not only a happy one, but one that helps America to see the humanity and validity of same-sex marriage.
