Nelly has finally broken his silence regarding his arrest in Tennessee last weekend on drugs and weapons charges.
Essentially echoing the statement given by his attorney, the 40-year-old star of the hit BET reality series, “Nellyville,” says he needs to be more careful of the friends that he keeps in close proximity:
“I feel the need to take responsibility for my choices in needing to be more aware of all the people I associate with and allow onto my property. While my instinct of course, is to be accessible to my friends, fans and acquaintances, the last thing I would want to do is compromise the respect and admiration of my friends, family and fans.”
The “Hot In Herre” rapper was arrested after his tour bus was stopped for failing to display a U.S. Department of Transportation and International Fuel Tax Association sticker. Upon approaching the bus, officers smelled the strong scent of marijuana and upon searching the bus found a number of handguns and “five colored crystal-type rocks that tested positive for methamphetamine, as well as a small amount of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.”
As a result of the arrest, an April 23 performance at Missouri State University has been canceled.
Nelly is due back in Tennessee on June 19 to face a number of charges, including felony possession of drugs, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
