With the film Brotherly Love being screened in multiple cities, including Chicago, the stars of the movie, Keke Palmer and Cory Hardrict walked the red carpet at the Studio Movie Grille. The cast recently did a cover story with rolling out and shared details on the extraordinary cast and the characters they played. Hardrict had a few words for Chicago youth and inner-city kids everywhere.

How does it feel to be back in Chicago for the premiere of Brotherly Love?

It’s great to be back in Chicago. I’m from here, Keke’s from here and It’s just an amazing film. It was directed by Jamal Hill, a very talented up-and-coming director, he wrote the film and it was produced by Queen Latifah and Flavor Unit. They’re doing big things; shout-out to Queen Latifah, “I love you.” It’s a great family movie. I have a younger sister, played by Keke Palmer, I have a a brother, played by Eric Hill, my mother is Macy Gray and I’m the patriarch provider who takes care of my family. That’s my responsibility and it kinda has that Boys N the Hood, Menace to Society and Juice feel to it. But the movie also has a little Poetic Justice and Love & Basketball feel all in one. We’re taking it back to those old-school movies.

On a personal note, with you and your wife being such talented actors, do you want your kids to follow in your footsteps?

Yes! Cree told me last week he wanted to be an actor, so it’s done. He has a better personality and [he’s] more photogenic than me. I love my son.

What would you like to see Brotherly Love do for Chicago?

I would like to see it do well, but I would also like it to change people’s lives and save kids in Chicago and inner city Englewood area, and all over. I would like it to help them be more knowledgeable and know that they can do all things in their lives and just make the right decisions. It’s about the choices you make, family and having discipline.
