Cee Lo Green was barely 18 years-old when much of the nation first heard his voice on OutKast’s 1994 single, “Git Up, Git Out.” The young Atlanta native had a distinctive rhyme delivery and could also harmonize like an accomplished Baptist preacher.
One year after his debut with OutKast, Cee Lo Green proved that he could preach, sing, and spit hard rap lyrics on Goodie Mob’s classic debut album, Soul Food. The hip-hop world watched him grow, leave Goodie Mob, step away from rap, strive as a solo artist, return to rap, return to Goodie Mob, become a TV star, and show some vulnerabilities.
But throughout the ups and downs, Cee Lo Green has carried the torch that was once held by great soul singers such as Sam Cooke and Bobby Womack. He walked in the footsteps of hip-hop’s conscious voice similar to Chuck D and Ice Cube.
So to see Cee Lo Green celebrate 40 years of life is like witnessing the maturation of an entire generation who recognized the value of properly feeding the mind, body, and soul.
Cee Lo Green celebrated his 40th birthday by throwing an extravagant party at a private mansion in Atlanta. The artist also used the occasion to give back to the community by hosting a private auction that will benefit his Green House Foundation.
Notable attendees included OutKast, Dungeon Family, Cameo, Apollonia and Eric Benet.
