Actress Rashida Jones will soon star in a new series created and executive produced by some old friends.
Steve and Nancy Carrell, who co-starred with Jones on The Office, have put together what is being referred to as a “classic slapstick” sitcom entitled Angie Tribeca, in which Jones will play the lead character, a 10-year veteran of the LAPD’S RHCU: Really Heinous Crimes Unit.
“I hadn’t seen anything like this, and it’s really really stupid,” said Steve Carrell at a screening of the show. “Any heart that comes out of this is sort of inadvertent. We just wanted to do something that was irreverent and silly and made us laugh.”
Jones, 39, who most recently starred in the hit NBC sitcom Parks & Recreation, says she took one look at the script and knew she absolutely had to do the show.
“I read it and was like, ‘There’s no chance I’m not doing this,'” she said. “It’s my absolute favorite kind of humor and it was executed so well. I did not envision getting back to acting so quickly, but I didn’t feel like I could pass up this opportunity.”
A slew of stars including Lisa Kudrow, Bill Murray, and Jones’ real life mother and father, Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones, have already been booked to appear on the show.
Angie Tribeca is scheduled to debut on TBS later in the fall.
