Another one bites the dust, as Rosie Perez is (really) leaving “The View.”
Just a few weeks after formally adding Raven Symone to its ranks, “The View” is losing another member of its panel, Rosie Perez. Executive producer Bill Wolff informed staff of the ABC News daytime show on Tuesday evening in a memo announcing, “Our friend Rosie Perez has decided to leave the show at the conclusion of this season to pursue full time her love for acting. Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive.”
As for her last day on the job, Perez will be signing off on August 6, the final original show of the season. Although Perez has yet to comment on her big departure, it is said that she is expected to speak on the matter in today’s broadcast.
Earlier this year, rumors circulated of a potential Perez departure from the series, but she remained; In fact, her brief hiatus was pre-planned so that she could star in Larry David’s Broadway production Fish In The Dark; however, a different Rosie… Rosie O’Donnell, did leave “The View” in February, citing a health condition.
“The truth is, I had a heart attack two years ago and stress is very bad for a heart attack survivor,” O’Donnell said in a video for fans. “I’m minimizing my stress by leaving ‘The View.’ The stress I’m having at home is not easily as remediable. … It’s hard, marriages are complicated and I’ve got five kids … There’s lots of stuff going on at home.”
Although there has been no word yet on the future addition to the table, Whoopi Goldberg is the moderator of the ABC program with Nicolle Wallace and Raven-Symoné serving as co-hosts. While we’d like to think that co-hosts are dropping like flies just to follow their dreams, the frequent staff changes have us thinking otherwise. What do you think of Perez’s upcoming exit? And who would you like to see fill her spot? Sound off in the comment section below!
